Are we really figthing back…or rolling over and playing dead?

When will it end?

when will it stop?

Never. If we don’t start fighting back and stop playing dead. We have been mistreated, falsely accused and arrested so many times, that we (Blacks and Latinos) think that it is OK. We have right as human beings, the same as our Caucasian brothers and sisters, yet we accept the scrutiny of our President, innocent men like Troy Davis, so on and so forth. As long as we keep rolling over and playing dead, we will die off as a people for real. Either in jail, on the streets or in our souls,…yes our souls. We have to fight back, not tomorrow or even today but yesterday. If we ever want to move to the next level we must follow the steps of Dr. King and other visionaries. The time is now! Join the NAACP, ACLU, or your own civil right group with in your community. Remember “United we stand…Divided we fall.”

A pill of reality to swallow, with no water!

There is so much we take for granted, so much we complain about yet, we have not experienced a second of pain or hurt, like we think we have. Take some time out, watch this video, acknowledge that you are blessed no matter what your situation is, and think about what it is that you do that makes a difference in the lives of others. Humanity as we know it, is becoming instinct, not the word, but the behavior. This is a very sobering story, and I guarantee after watching it you will realize how silly we are to let things such as breakups, the size of our houses, what kinds of purses we rock or what our haters have to say about us trouble us. I learned about this crisis this morning at work after another Nurse was kind enough to share it with me. Oprah also recently found out, and shed some light on this crisis on her show. It is amazing, how we hear so much about Chrysler, or Madoff, yet the massacre going on in our native land (Afrika) goes unpublicized, unmentioned, and unnoticed. This is the same way our history was hidden from us in the past. The Jews make sure they always know what’s going on in Israel, yet many of us don’t even know the difference between North and South Africa. We rely on the discovery channel to depict, isolated tribes, and uncivilized people. We as a people must be more conscious about world issues and not just our own. Many blame the “White man” for putting us in this situation, are we waiting for them to pluck us out? It seems like they are more interested in our justice than we are. If you think we have arrived because our President is half Black. Think again! After all, we are all one people under God. We have an obligation to love one another, fight for what’s right, and stretch out our hands for people and countries who are reaching for one to hold on to in order to stand up again.

Christ vs. the bunny

A contrast between Jesus Christ, the commericialized Easter Bunny and the pagan tradition involving Ishtar and bunnies. When pagan's were being converted to Christianity, they kept a lot of the same traditions to make it an easy switch-over.

How can one of the most  spiritual holidays, celebration rather turn into one of the most pagan celebrations of our society. Today Jesus is competing with the Easter Bunny. Many children today have no clue why their parents celebrate Easter they just want to know where the colored eggs are being hid. As I walked into Walmart I heard a child about 9 years old say “I love Easter, I can’t beleive they made a holiday just for kids to hunt for eggs!” I was shocked! I made a face only another Haitian would recognize. Now some defend the bunny by saying it is innocent, humble and vulnerable,  so why not have an Easter lamb instead. The truth is there is nothing wrong with engaging children by having activities such as an egg hunt, but lets not forget the reason, the purpose and the meaning behind this day. Easter is in spring, Spring is the season of growth, multiplication, harvest and new life. The ressurection of Christ is why we have new life. Instead of plucking eggs from the ground, we have to teach our children how to plant seeds. I understand in the Second Century A.D Christian missionaries traveled Northern Europe and used the Easter bunny to make Christianity attractive, but I thought someone dying on a cross and getting back up in three days, was the greatest advertisement yet, (and it wasn’t even a publicity stunt, it was the prophecy of the old testament being fulfilled) to inherit followers and belivers. There is no reason why Jesus the Christ should ever have to compete with a bunny rabbit, or even a pine tree.  As christians we must always honor the God of the day, the God of the season, and the God of the celebration, not the actual day, celebration or event. So I challange all of my readers to challenge the children around them and teach them the significane behind spiritual and historal events, not just the activities associated with them.

Thank God it’s Friday….Good Friday

Posted in Spirituality with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 10, 2009 by Patti-Cakes

So today is Frblackjesus5iday, Good Friday, and I’m feeling extra special, extra loved, and extra protected. You see my savior died on this day but rose on the third day and ascended into the heavens to join his heavenly father. I can’t help but feel overjoyed and so special, that he endured the most tortuous and gruesome death in history just for little ol’ me and little ol’ you! As much as I sin, and curse and carry on like I don’t have any sense at times, I’m am cleansed by his blood, and healed by his stripes. So many Christians today will be making a joyful noise around the world because this is indeed  “good news”, as we reflect and meditate on what Christ stood for and still stands for today and forever. I’m so glad that he lives, and he’s the only living God that  I know, praise worship and recognize . So again I say Thank God it’s Friday, and thank God for the trinity. Amen.

img_661611The games I play not to fall in love

He calls, I won’t answer

He tells a joke, I don’t laugh

He thinks I’m cold, but it’s an act

I play not to fall in love

He doesn’t know, so plays back

Thinking I’m the “one”

He opens up to me,

 But I play dumb

He wants my all,

I only give him some

I play this game so we wont hurt each other

but I did more damage frontin’,

Then us loving one another

He finally gave in, and professed his love for me

Too bad the game I play won’t let me

What is Black Beauty?

Posted in Black in America, In Living Color with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 7, 2009 by Patti-Cakes
Can you define her Beauty?

Can you define her Beauty? Is it reserved for the lighter tones or darker tones, reserved for the thin or thick?

What is Black beauty? It is the b-racial fair skinned damsel with the long straight hair and the light eyes, or is it that dark skinned goddess with full lips, hips and natural hair? Is it the queen with the round rump, or is it she that temptress who totes the voluptuous breast? Could it be the Amazon  that stands tall, or the petite southern belle that you see 5′4 at the mall? Is it she the cook that has the big bones, or the runway model who’s made of bones? Who is she? what is she? What does she look like, talk like, or even walk like. Is it one thing or a combination of many? How many languages does she speak, does she have an accent, does she smile? Is she serious? Is she shy? or is she loud? What is it? What is her beauty? Where is her beauty? No man has  one answer, so to sum it up, we just say “that’s black beauty.” Walking down the street with her head high and her shoulders straight, Dark and light as he wants to be and thin or thick as she likes to be. Black beauty is beauty undefined. Beauty undefiled!

So…what’s in the Gucci bag?

Posted in That's just Ghetto ! with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 7, 2009 by Patti-Cakes
$4,190.00
So what’s in the Gucci bag girl? Is it a black card or a WIC card? Cash or Lint? No really what’s in the bag? I’m curious to know, since you don’t own a home or even a vehicle, or maybe I can’t see it because  it’s in the bag. Why in the world would a woman purchase a $5,000.00 bag and have nothing to wear it with, no where to wear it to, and nothing to put in it? Yet, often times we see these beautiful Gucci bags, on the shoulder of these not too beautiful women. If I wear a bag, it’s real, I can afford it, I have somewhere to wear to, wear it with, and a closet to put it in after I’m tired of it (my usual routine). I Keep my car and house keys in it, some credit cards, some cash, Chanel lip gloss(rose sand color), my journal (so I can keep writing), a digital camera (in case I see something interesting), compact powder from Prescriptives, sunglasses, my G1 from t-mobile, two pens, my  check book, Burt’s Honey almond hand balm, hand sanitizer, nail filer, and lifesaver’s cool mint. So the reason why I have a Gucci bag is clear, it’s big enough to hold what I need to carry daily, and I’m blessed enough to afford it ! (o.k and some of them are gifts) but that’s not the point. When purchasing designer bags here’s an intelligent  tip, you can get a better deal at Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus than the actual store, so paying full price doesn’t make one purse better than the other, it just makes one buyer able to afford the loafers and another to be broke! The next time I see a Gucci bag in Miami, I hope I don’t have to ask that woman what’s in it, because she’ll be walking to her car, to drive home and sit it in her closet with her other trendy possessions. Not on a bus stop with  a dirty toddler, and a metro PCS phone with Coach sneakers on. Although I’ll never know what’s in their Gucci bags, I’m praying it’s a receipt to take it back (if it’s real) pay some bills, buy some books and put the rest in the bank.

Himlove

He spoke words of truth and even the harshest were delivered with kindness

He listened to weakness and never subscribed to taking advantage

He took sorrow and suffering and turned it into spiritual strength

He exposed my beauty, without exposing my body

And now he undresses my heart

So I lie here naked but clothed with hope

I’m not cold, nor am I ashamed

I have simply been introduced to love

And I publicly accept the invitation

To living the rest of my life

With

Him

Love
